FAQ's

What do groundwork companies do?

A Groundworks Company is typically your first and last trade on a project. With the primary stage of works normally being Excavation for new Foundations, Roads, Footpaths and Basements and your latter phase being Surfacing, Patio and Driveway installations, Garden Landscaping and Drainage installation.

A Groundworks Contractor will look to get your project out of the ground and a starting block for builders, provide a project with essential hard landscaping and access routes and ensure both Sewage (Foul) and Rainfall (Storm) drainage systems are in place.

How long does groundwork take?

This depends significantly on the specification of the project and what is required. For example, standard Groundwork or Earthworks such as Strip Foundations can often be excavated, stockpiled and concrete poured within the foundations in a matter of days.

More complex works such as Ringbeam Foundations can be more timely and involve stages of work such as excavation, steel installation, steel tying and concrete pouring. Often having to be done by hand due to the restrictions for machinery within a site.

Are Groundworks and Foundations the same thing?

No. Groundworks as a term can relate to the whole process of works carried out on a project from within the ground and externally. Groundworks can cover Earthworks, Foundations, Drainage, Floor installation and Hard Landscaping as a selection. Whereas Foundations relate to the footprint of a building within the ground.
